If you play a video game with another person long enough, they are inevitably going to make some mistakes… some that we find amusing, and others that may cause actual irritation, frustration, and disappointment. Once a mistake occurs we have a choice to make… do we drop it and move on? Or do we continue to remind them over and over again that we would’ve already WON if they hadn’t been so careless? While it can be difficult in the heat of the moment, our gaming partnerships are going to involve some speed bumps… and we must be willing to forgive and move past them if we want to move forward.
One of the greatest gifts we can give someone is setting them free from the burdens of guilt and shame they are carrying for mistakes they have made. Christ entrusted us with the ministry of reconciliation… not just to reconcile people with the Father, but also with each other. Let’s use the power of forgiveness today with those who have wronged us, firmly placing their mistakes in the forgotten past and fully restoring fellowship with them, just as the Lord in His infinite mercy has chosen to forget all of our past sins and restored each of His repentant children. It’s time to press “continue” on those relationships no matter who was at fault, and move forward on that game that we left on pause… together.
He who covers a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates friends. Proverbs 17:9
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19
