As much as I enjoy video games that introduce me to powerful new friends and allies, I find that they tend to disappear from the game RIGHT when I feel like I need them most. They help me through a few tough battles, add some critical plot exposition, and right when I’m starting to get used to having them and their capabilities in my party they leave on some random quest. As I move forward, I can’t help but feel like the game would have been a lot easier if we would have stuck together. But just as suddenly as they left, they tend to show back up just in time to save the day… and that previous side-mission turned out to be critical to ensuring not just my success, but the survival of others that I wasn’t aware of.
Many times in life we may feel like the Lord is distant from our problems when He fails to show up exactly when or how we want Him to, but His answers to our prayers have a perfect timing that cannot be rushed. Even the smallest and simplest requests will impact the lives of others in ways we could never anticipate, and what He is doing in the background of our situation will be a solution that solves more needs than our own. Let’s trust in Christ’s promise that He hears all of our prayers… and when we have to wait longer than we’d like, let’s remember that He’s resolving more than just our own problems with His reply.
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 1 John 5:14-15
For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9
