Approaching the end of a video game is always a bittersweet feeling for me… partially because I realize the game I’ve been enjoying is about to reach its’ final conclusion with an unavoidable finality, but also because I may not actually be happy with HOW the game ends. Many of my favorite games wrapped up their story with a whimper instead of a bang, and when a game that I’ve invested my time, money, and emotions into fails to stick the landing, my disappointment often ends up defining my entire experience with that title. The lasting memory I have from the game is usually determined by my LAST memory from the game, for better or for worse.
Christ’s time on this planet looked like it ended painfully on a horrific wooden cross… but that wasn’t the actual ending of His journey. He willingly endured that pain and shame because He knew the Father had written His story, and it wouldn’t end in that place of disappointment and sorrow. And that same Jesus is the author and finisher of OUR faith, and wherever we are at right now in our journey, our story doesn’t end here either. The part we are currently in may be painful and hard to understand, but it is not the end. There is more beyond this grief and pain. He has a perfect conclusion for our story… so let’s trust Him with each and every part of it.
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
