Friendly Fire and the First Step to Healing

Playing a game in cooperatively with friends or family changes EVERYTHING… but while many parts of the game become significantly easier by sharing the burden across other gamers, there are also challenges that aren’t present when adventuring solo. Taking everyone’s health, ammo, and position on the screen into account takes effort, and many times in the frenzy of all that is happening I may make some mistakes… like an errant grenade toss that unintentionally catches one of my own teammates in the blast radius. “Friendly fire” may be accidental, but it still inflicts real damage and pain on the receiver.

We all make mistakes… even as followers of Christ we can still be guilty of intentional or accidental thoughts, words, or actions that hurt our fellow co-op players in the real world. And when these events happen, we must confess these failings to each other… not just to restore the relationship, but to heal them of the hurt we caused. Let’s not allow another day to go by without reaching out and praying for those we have hurt, and humbly ask them to forgive us and pray for us as well. Healing takes time… so let’s take the first steps towards reconciliation by owning our mistakes with a truly repentant heart, and start the healing process today.

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32
