Kingdom Hearts: Actively Prepared or Passively Equipped?

Thoughtfully choosing which items my character procures, carries, and uses tends to be critical to my success in the game I’m playing… there are dozens of different armor sets, swords, shields, boots and other items offering unique strengths and enhancements. Many are purely cosmetic, some are more beneficial than others, and a select few are perfectly suited to my personal style of play. But only the items that have been both acquired AND actively equipped can be used to protect and support me in the battles I am about to face… if I fail to “equip” them, they don’t serve any useful purpose to me at all.

Placing our belief in Christ is central to our faith, but it’s only when we are actively abiding in Him, following His will, and acting on His words that we’ll experience the benefits of our relationship in the daily challenges we each face. Faith in Christ doesn’t grant us a “passive buff” to our character… it is only through the conscious and proactive act of “putting on our spiritual armor” in prayer and Bible study that we truly become “equipped” BEFORE we head into battle. We must actually know the truth before that truth can truly set us free… so let’s take time today and carefully choose how we equip ourselves.

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31-32

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:11
