Sonic: Keeping Our Heads Above the Water

I have noticed a strange issue with many of my favorite gaming characters… they are allergic to water. This same character can get struck by vehicles, scorched by fire, absorb missile strikes, survive huge falls… but if their little toe touches even the smallest drop of water it is GAME OVER. Maybe they’ve just been too busy saving the world to stop and take swimming lessons, or perhaps it’s the weight of all the inventory items they have crammed into their pockets… but either way, high quality H2O tends to be their kryptonite. I guess when the weight of the world is on your shoulders, one drop can feel like a lot.

We are all carrying different burdens in life, and when we are at our maximum capacity even the smallest setback can make us feel like we are being pulled down to the ocean floor by the undertow of a wave we can’t swim through. Fortunately, we serve a Savior we WALKS on the very water that makes us feel like we are in over our head… so whether we feel overwhelmed by the raging flood waters around us or perhaps we simply lost our footing in the shallows and can’t pull ourselves out, there is always a way out of our current predicament and back onto solid ground. Desperate situations are His specialty, and He hears our prayers from wherever we are and no matter how we managed to get there.

The waters surrounded me, even to my soul; the deep closed around me; weeds were wrapped around my head. I went down to the moorings of the mountains; the earth with its bars closed behind me forever; yet You have brought up my life from the pit, O Lord, my God. When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord; and my prayer went up to You, into Your holy temple. Jonah 2:5-7

But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:30-31
