Mission Prioritization: Treasures That Will Last

One of my favorite time-savers in games is the ability to look through my mission log, select my priority, and then set a waypoint to mark that spot… a visible indication on my in-game map that tells me what direction I should be headed in to pursue that objective. Moving towards that beacon and following the corresponding arrow ensures that I don’t get pulled off of my path and into a wild-goose chase that leads me in the opposite direction. While that side-mission journey may involve some sweet loot and fun challenges, it does not contribute towards the primary mission that I had chosen to prioritize above all else.

The direction we are investing our time, energy, talents, and resources into not only indicates what direction our heart’s deepest desire is… it dictates it. Following the Lord often comes at the exclusion of other pursuits… not because they are bad, but because the treasure they offer is only temporary. Let’s set a waypoint in our hearts and minds today to intentionally invest in our primary mission… to grow in our relationship with Him, build His Kingdom in all we do, and store up treasures that will last.

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:19-21
