Master Chief and The Weight of Our Words

The Master Chief has the weight of more than one world resting on his shoulders, so we never find him wasting either his limited time or his even more limited words engaging in pointless arguments. But being a man of few words has some pretty valuable benefits… rather than expending his energy participating in endless dialogue trees that don’t actually resolve any of the conflicts that surround him, he ignores the comments and focuses on completing his mission. And because the Chief demonstrates restraint in what he says and when he chooses to say it, it adds greater meaning and value to his words when he DOES choose to speak.

Thanks to all of our technical advancements, our ability to communicate with each other has never been greater… but to our shame, we tend to use these gifts to engage in pointless arguments that only diminish the value of our words and waste everyone’s time. Christ didn’t stop to answer every critic He faced because His mission took priority over winning petty verbal conflicts. Let’s submit our mouths to His control to avoid the pitfall of unproductive conversations… harsh words don’t save souls.

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1

But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth. 2 Timothy 2:23-25
