Releasing Our Burdens: Walking Away to Pray

I have learned a critical truth over my years of playing (and sometimes getting stuck) in video games… many times I just need to put the controller down, walk away, and gain some perspective on my current predicament before diving back in.  I have failed over and over and OVER against the exact same challenge, but I stubbornly kept pressing continue in an attempt to succeed through sheer force of will and determination… until I reached a point of exhaustion and frustration.  And typically, after walking away for a day and coming back to the game with fresh eyes, I often succeed on my first attempt at the exact same problem.

In life we often get knocked out on our feet by the challenges and battles we face, but we keep on standing and fighting in this semi-paralyzed state anyways, hoping we can still find a way to win.  It is hard to force ourselves to stop, put the controller of our lives down, and seek God’s perspective on our dilemma… and as a result we frequently compound our problems with added stress and frustration.  Let’s normalize taking a prayer break as often as we need to and lay our burdens at His feet.

However, the report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed. Luke 5:15-16

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30
