Almost every video game revolves around challenges that must be endured and a conflict that must be resolved. Whether it is the age-old battle between Link and Ganon or the futuristic wars of Master Chief against whoever he is facing this time, these games are all about grueling campaigns and costly sacrifices… and each battle scar and crack in the armor tells the story of a hard fought victory over the setbacks they faced. While these characters deserve a break, the truth is nobody wants to play “Master Chief sits on a couch”. It is the intensity of these battles that makes the story of their triumph so compelling.
Nobody enjoys hard times, but we must keep in mind that we are neither passengers nor vacationers during our pilgrimage down here. We are soldiers for Christ in a battle for souls… and while we may enjoy times of peace and an occasional oasis from the battlefront, fulfilling our purpose will absolutely contain periods of pain. Even Jesus carries His battle scars as an eternal reminder that His triumph came at a painful cost… so let’s not allow the battle to wear us down. Final victory is already ours.
You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 2:3
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:33
