Sanctuary: A Soundtrack That We Choose

The musical soundtrack behind each level of Kingdom Hearts does more than provide a bit of ambience… it changes the way we perceive the area that we are in and causes us to either relax and casually explore the environment OR grip our controller tightly in dread of what is coming next. From the cheerful tones that play while we romp around Destiny Island to the haunting dirge that lets us know we’ve arrived at Hollow Bastion, the music informs how we are supposed to feel about each area we are in… but we can always choose to listen to a more energetic and uplifting song like the “Sanctuary” theme to remind us that we were sent to overcome these dark places, not allow them and their “mood music” to define us.

We’ll all face dark times and challenging trials in life, and the soundtrack we choose to listen to has a massive impact on how we perceive these circumstances. We don’t choose the level we’re in, but we DO choose if we enter them with a melody of praise in our hearts and an attitude of gratitude in each situation. Let’s not allow our environment to dictate our mood; let’s change the song and break those chains.

But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. Acts 16:25-26

Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:19-20

He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth— praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:2-3
