Kingdom Hearts and Gummi Ship Struggles

The gameplay in the Kingdom Hearts series is broken up into two segments… the fun part where we get to run, jump, and fight bad guys, and the part where we have to fly between worlds using the “Gummi ship”. As I’m sure you guessed, I don’t enjoy the Gummi ship portions at all… they feel like they came from an entirely different game that I never wanted to play, and if I had the choice I would skip them. But part of the story is getting to my destination, and even though flying the ship feels different (and much less fun) than the platforming segments I enjoy, it’s a part of the game… and if I want to play it, I have to accept the entire package.

Some parts of our Christian walk will feel great (like freely receiving undeserved love, grace and favor from the Lord), and other portions will feel a lot less enjoyable (like forgiving those who’ve never apologized, waiting on the Lord, or turning the other cheek)… but they are all critical components to the story He is telling through our lives. Our times of struggle, as hard as they can be to understand, are used by Him to prepare us for our next destination… and they’ll make sense when we get there.

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. Psalm 34:19

May the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 1 Peter 5:10

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
