At the center of the Kingdom Hearts’ story is a group of damaged, flawed, unlikely heroes… some were “Nobody’s” searching for a body and life of their own, others were missing their “heart”, and several started off serving the wrong side in search of their destiny before eventually finding their way into the light. But despite their complicated backstories, how the pains of their past had tried to break them, or even the poor decisions they made, they each became integral parts of the story… and even their past became part of their future purpose.
Some of the most encouraging verses to read are the names of those chosen to be part of the genealogy of Christ… God could’ve picked anyone to have a place in His family tree, and yet He deliberately selected the heartbroken and battle-damaged Ruth, the harlot with a heart of gold Rahab, the trickster Jacob, and even the adulterous David and Bathsheba. But these broken, damaged, and even previously sinful souls were grafted into the vine through His grace because He saw beyond what they’d been to what they’d become… an invitation He extends to even a wayward soul like mine.
Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David the king. David the king begot Solomon by her who had been the wife of Uriah. Matthew 1:5-6
But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.” Isaiah 43:1-2
