An Ocarina for All Times

Few items are more powerful or essential to their story than Link’s iconic ocarina in “The Ocarina of Time”… this simple instrument could call for support, access healing points, unlock closed doors, and solve puzzles that were impossible to complete without playing the right songs on it. But these songs only worked if our character had both earned them AND learned them. These weren’t merely cheat codes we could enter in to bypass tough spots… these songs could only be learned after successfully enduring dangerous battles in some very dark dungeons to acquire them.

As a believer we don’t always feel like making a “joyful noise”, but our ability to shine our light isn’t based on our present circumstances… it’s predicated on the amount of His Word we’ve absorbed and are choosing to meditate on. Letting His words dwell in us is an active choice we make throughout the day, and these songs in our heart aren’t because we have successfully overcome our current problems… they are a reminder of His faithfulness in our previous battles and His continuing promise to be with us through each and every storm.

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Psalm 98:4
