A large portion of my video game experiences are populated with WAITING… waiting for the game to install, then waiting for the patch to download, followed by waiting for the levels to load, and then the waiting REALLY begins. We must wait for our character to level up enough to advance, we wait for the story to build to its crescendo… the most exciting and rewarding part of the game can often be dozens of hours away from the point where we first began our journey. But it is through our patient growth that the game produces the desired results, and we experience the satisfaction of a story that rewards our patience with victory.
It would be nice if our devotion to the Lord was followed by the sound of heavenly trumpets, a booming voice from the clouds supporting us, and immediate gratification… but this is not how it typically goes. We are responsible for our obedience, not the results… and He is never late, even if we have to wait. Let’s not become discouraged if our faithfulness does not produce immediate fruit… at the right time our patience will align with God’s perfect plan, revealing a victory beyond our wildest dreams.
And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Galatians 6:9
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
