Sora: Under-Qualified but Uniquely Gifted

Sora was a very unlikely protagonist when we were introduced to him in the first Kingdom Hearts game… small, young, with no combat skills to speak of and barely able to win a foot race with his friends. But he didn’t become the hero because he was the strongest, biggest, fastest, or the best… it was because he was given the gift and chosen by the Keyblade to wield it despite his lack of obvious external qualifications. Sora offered himself as a willing vessel despite his limited skills, and the actions of a humble, obedient heart saved his world.

If I’m being honest, I often feel like I’m far too small, flawed, and insignificant to make any kind of impact for the Lord in the world around me… I’ve messed up too much, my platform is too small, and my very best efforts are still too weak to have an impact. But we aren’t called based on our perceived qualifications… He chooses and uses vessels who are willing to serve His purpose in spite of our limitations. It’s when His Spirit works through our obedient hearts that He is glorified… so don’t fret. Using unknown, under-qualified souls to change the world happens to be the Lord’s specialty 🙂

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. 1 Corinthians 1:26-29
