I am always deeply appreciative of any video game that allows me to “press continue” after my character meets their demise… even if it is for the hundredth time. I get an opportunity to regroup, process what went wrong, and try again with a fresh perspective. Games with “infinite continues” remove the pressure of needing to live my current life to the fullest, because I know I will have another one after this one expires. But if I only had ONE life and no continues, I would probably play the game quite a bit differently and make each decision much more carefully and intentionally.
We don’t get an infinite number of “continues” in this life… waking up each morning to try again is a precious gift we should never take for granted. Because we have a limited and unknown number of days, we must make the most out of each of them through being an encouragement to everyone we meet as well as shining the light of Christ’s love and grace to every soul we are given an opportunity to reach. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, so let’s choose to make today a day we would be proud of leaving as our final chapter.
So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12
