I have a love/hate relationship with cutscenes in video games… the first time I watch them, they typically provide meaningful exposition as well as a chance to catch my breath. But after losing a battle and being forced to watch the EXACT same unskippable cutscene over and over again, I tend to appreciate it much, much less. What previously provided me a welcome break now just feels like an unwanted wait… and my frustration with repeatedly enduring this scene makes it even harder for me to concentrate on doing what I needed to do in order to move forward. But some things can’t be skipped… we have to stay calm and endure.
The Lord hears all of our prayers the moment we pray them… even if the answer may seem a long time coming, forcing us to live through the same “cutscene” day after day after day. As hard as it is to endure these delays, they aren’t an indication of His lack of care or proof our prayers will go unanswered. There is an end to every cutscene, even those we’ve viewed with frustration a hundred times. This too shall pass… He hears us, He cares, and He will answer His children’s cries in His perfect time.
And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? Luke 18:7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
