The tremendous success of the first two titles in the Kingdom Hearts series placed an even larger amount of pressure on Kingdom Hearts 3 to be one of the greatest games of all time… and expectations grew to a level that would’ve been impossible for any sequel to fulfill. While KH3 represented a solid entry in the series, fans and reviewers felt disappointed because it wasn’t everything they hoped it would be, let down by promises that it had never made.
Many of my prayers have placed expectations on God that He never promised… He is the omniscient Ruler of the universe, not a vending machine waiting to attend to my every whim. He promised to supply our “needs” based on His definition of the word, not ours… and when we set our hearts on the Lord doing things that He didn’t guarantee, we set ourselves up for disappointment and disillusionment. Jesus disappointed many of His followers who were expecting a conquering Messiah instead of sacrificial Lamb… but He was what we needed, not what we wanted or asked for. Let’s come to Him in prayer for everything we lack… but remember He isn’t a genie, He is our King.
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:31-33
