Kingdom Hearts: Beauty and Purpose Within Our Diversity

On paper, the concept behind Kingdom Hearts shouldn’t work… the development studio that was responsible for serious gaming franchises like Final Fantasy was going to create a game that would incorporate Disney characters like Goofy and Mickey Mouse and tell a story set in worlds like the underwater kingdom of the Little Mermaid. In any other hands, this would have been a disaster… but the creators took these distinctly different pieces and pressed them together in a way that showed respect to each franchise while also combining them in a way that transformed them into a masterpiece.

The strength of the body of Christ is in our exceptional diversity… we are each called from different backgrounds to serve specific roles so we can accomplish unique purposes for His kingdom. We are a beautiful tapestry made up of some broken pasts, brilliant minds, lovable leaders, and a few that are a little bit “Goofy” like me… but we all bring distinct value to the body through the gifts we’ve been given. Let’s treat each member with respect even if their approach is a little different than ours… only a kingdom of unified hearts can change lives.

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Romans 12:3-5

But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be? But now indeed there are many members, yet one body. And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” No, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary. 1 Corinthians 12:18-22
