At the beginning of the Kingdom Hearts series, Kairi appears to be little more than a classic “damsel in distress”, existing only in service to Sora’s over-arching story… but appearances can be deceiving. Kairi’s destiny wasn’t just to act in service to the goals of others or to press their plots forward… She was a “Princess of Heart” in her own right, hiding in plain view with a critical purpose of her own until it was time for it to be revealed. As Kairi faithfully helped and supported her friends in their journeys, her future unfolded and her place in the story was made clear… her light was designed to shine so others trapped in darkness could find it.
The story of our lives can often seem to exist as a backdrop to someone else’s, and as our dreams fade into the background it can be easy to feel forgotten or mistakenly believe we possess an inferior destiny. But the Lord who directs the flight path of every sparrow never loses sight of us, and while our dreams can feel delayed our destiny cannot be denied… No matter where our path takes us, He designed us to carry His light into these dark places and become a beacon to Him for all who seek it.
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31
