There are few moments more awe-inspiring in a video game than performing a “summon” in a title like Final Fantasy… these massive, magnificent creatures boast powers and abilities far beyond the scale of me and my party members. Launching them into battle on my behalf can almost seem unfair at times… ALMOST. And when they finally reach their “Overdrive” option, it is intensely satisfying to watch them unleash their most powerful attack against an adversary I was unable to defeat without them… ending the battle easily and with finality once I move out of the way.
While there are certainly parts of the battle that are our responsibility, it is the Lord’s desire that we summon Him through prayer to fight for us on our behalf in every challenge we face. And when the Lord tell us to stand back and let Him show the power of His mighty hand, the enemy that was too much for us to handle without Him simply doesn’t stand a chance against Him. Let’s summon the God of the universe into the struggle we are facing today… He gave us access to Him and His power because He wants us to see Him use it.
And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” Exodus 14:13-14
For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16
