Bowsers, Reapers, and Praying for a Different Cup

I don’t always agree with every narrative decision the developers make in the games I play… if I was in charge, the story would have unfolded MUCH differently.  Even in titles that feature open dialogue options and multiple paths to the endgame, the addition of these choices STILL may not lead to the path I would have chosen and the outcome I would have preferred.  The Reapers still invade the Mass Effect universe no matter what decisions I make, and Bowser abducts Peach pretty much every time he sees her whether I like it or not.

We may not always understand or agree with the narrative choices the Lord has made in our lives… but He doesn’t ask us to.  He is asking for our faith within the storms we would have avoided if we were in charge of the story.  We may struggle to see His purpose, but we can’t allow the limitations of our viewpoint to offend us or blind us to His love… even through the hardest of times, when it seems life could have gone a better or easier way.  Jesus prayed for a different cup, too… but He still chose to drink out of the bitter goblet He was served because it was the only one that could save us all.

Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” Matthew 26:38-19

And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me. Luke 7:23
