Difficulty levels in video games have evolved almost as much as the games themselves… While older titles typically only featured one default difficulty setting, modern games cater to the widest possible audience by offering a variety of challenge levels… from virtually impossible difficulty settings that only the most elite gamers can tackle, to settings so casual that even non-gamers can fully enjoy the story without experiencing frustration. While both offer something for everyone, I always feel guilty about dropping the difficulty level down just so I can actually ENJOY playing the game.
The Lord has made the path to His grace and forgiveness so simple and accessible it can seem too good to be true… and as a result it can be tempting for us to add to the “difficulty setting” by creating additional hurdles to jump over or add unnecessary mountains to climb. Don’t allow yourself, others, or the enemy to add an artificial difficulty level to the healing and restoration that was already purchased at the highest degree of difficulty by Christ… He did all the heavy lifting so we can receive what we would never have been able to achieve.
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean’?”2 King 5:13
