While Mario tends to be the star in most of Nintendo’s Mushroom Kingdom adventures, over time each of his companions have found their own personal missions in their respective spin-offs. After years of playing a supporting character role, each of them have received their turn in the spotlight in games like Captain Toad’s Adventures, the Luigi’s Mansion series, and Princess Peach’s Showtime. Their roles seemed small and inconsequential at first, but these small beginnings are what established them so they could handle the pressure of carrying their own title when it was their time.

As followers of Christ, we’ll often find that He will guide us through missions of seemingly low importance and minimal impact, but these smaller roles are the testing grounds for larger purposes that will be revealed at the proper time. Just as King David trained privately by wrestling with local wildlife before he took on Goliath and emerged as a public figure, we will all walk through private challenges as a means of preparing us for our future battles. These small beginnings are important… when we are faithful in little things, He’ll trust us with more.

Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin. Zechariah 4:10a
