Genesis Does What Nintendon’t?

The original “console wars” between Sega and Nintendo got a little bit feisty… both companies battled it out for the hearts (and wallets) of the gaming audience in each successive console launch by adding new features and additional processing power. Sega upped the ante with their slogan “Genesis does what Nintendon’t”, attempting to distinguish their platform by mocking what Nintendo’s consoles didn’t do. But the house that Mario built didn’t rise to the bait… Nintendo stayed the course, made the games and systems they wanted to make, and didn’t allow Sega to drag them into fighting this battle on their terms. The result? Nintendo is still making game consoles, and Sega is not.

In our real-world missions for Christ, we will be tempted to lower ourselves to the standards of the world around us to remain relevant… but this is a race to the bottom of the barrel that nobody wins. The eternal wisdom of the living God doesn’t need updated to fit our modern culture… and His words are not a secret to be ashamed of. His kingdom is still standing as every earthly empire has crumbled… so let’s share Him without any “shame in our game”.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Romans 1:16

We preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 1 Corinthians 1:23-25
