Star Wars characters making a final sacrifice is certainly nothing new, but if I’m being truly honest, losing Tech was the one that hit me the hardest. I could never personally relate to the incredible athleticism of Anakin or the heroic wisdom of Obi-Wan, but in the unique squad called “the Bad Batch” I finally found the one character I could identify with… the nerdy, slightly awkward one with the glasses and the receding hairline. Tech was my favorite, and I thought he was headed towards a happy ending… until the situation called for Plan 99 and he gave his life to save his squad. He wasn’t very good at articulating his feelings, but his actions showed the greatest love of all.

As followers of Christ, we are called to make the ultimate sacrifice every day… to show the love of the Father in all we do. That love is not just some bubbly, magical feeling inside of us… it is a choice, an action that we take to do the right thing, the hard thing, the self-sacrificial thing when we would prefer not to. We are the living, breathing embodiment of “Plan 99”… demonstrating Christ’s love to all in everything we do. There is no time… let’s execute Plan 99.

This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. John 15:12-13

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
