The Fall of the Jedi

The tragic fall of the entire Jedi order and the overthrow of the Jedi temple in “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” is even more painful to watch because of how preventable it was. The Jedi were at the height of their knowledge and influence at the time, but they were lulled into a fatal state of over-confidence by an enemy who took advantage of their compassion and manipulated their mission. They allowed the very thing they were meant to stand against to not only infiltrate them, but compromise their values… believing themselves to be wise, they became fools and lost the galaxy as a result.

In the life of a believer, the greatest danger we face is not the direct attacks of our enemy, but the compromises we permit to exist in our lives that represent the deepest and truest threats to our spiritual well-being. Our body is the very temple of the Spirit of God, and it does not run on the operating system of this world. Let’s be mindful of both who and what we allow to have access to our temples and speak into our lives under the disguise of being “harmless”… the light of Christ in us has no fellowship with the darkness of this world other than to save it.

Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? James 4:4b-5

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:15-17
